ABSTRACT

The local in music is what comes naturally. It could be derived from the nature that includes plants, animals and minerals, but more importantly it comes from the individual human or our collective cultural natures. It is what has stimulated the creation of modal ballads in England as well as pentatonic mourning songs in Thailand. Given the monumental growth of new technology in our daily lives, the “local” has even has led “naturally” to many of today’s non-Third-World musicians to composing electronic music.
