ABSTRACT

To conclude part 2 a few words will follow concerning the most (overly-) discussed and one of the least understood subjects of “music and …” of this century. Anyone who ever talks about music sooner or later tackles the subject of the politics of music. In fact the word subject (singular) is incorrect. One of the problems in most treatments of music and politics is that people forget to discuss one music-political subject at a time. The following section is a simple attempt to categorize these subjects (derived from Landy: 1981) after which a few typical music-political examples in contemporary music will be placed under the microscope. Obviously the last three chapters were all of a political nature and could have been included here as well. Their special importance was the reason for their separate treatment.
