ABSTRACT
The physical deterioration of the environment, whether it be in a national park setting or seaside resort, is due in the main to an imbalance between tourist demand and physical carrying capacity of a destination area. Under these circumstances the expected symbiotic relationships between tourism and conservation break down and conflict develops.
