ABSTRACT
When musicians-particularly jazz musicians-use the term “blues,” they are usually referring to a repeating harmonic pattern that serves as the basis for a succession of melodic, rhythmic, and textural variations (improvised or written). Today’s musician should have a working understanding of this form.
