ABSTRACT

The active presence of freedom in America is vanishingly small. Words and slogans are used for long periods after they have been emptied of content by events. Those who know within themselves that to challenge their society fundamentally is a dangerous thing to do deceive themselves by clinging to such hollow slogans until they have been sufficiently corrupted to have lost interest in them. The next step for the absence of vital life is for the conceptions to be acknowledged as something desirable anyway. “National interest” is the replacement term most preferred.
