The Church, the State, and the 'herd' book
Chapter I I provided an outline of some of the more significant elements in Russell's philosophy, especially as these relate to his theory of education. In Chapter I I I , the main sources of his theory of education were identified and discussed. The purpose of this chapter will be to show that Russell vigorously protested against what he thought were the restrictive influences of the church, the state, and the crowd upon the development of individual intelligence and initiative.
