ABSTRACT
Many philosophers, pundits, and relig ious leaders have espoused the notion of the human family, but it was Karl Marx and his successors who made the greatest practical effort to achieve that end. Marx’s essential insight was that the economic life of the social system could be like the social life of the family: ‘From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.’1
