ABSTRACT
Reasons for teaching drama are outlined. Drama is linked to play, particularly role play, in the early years and to story telling and writing creatively across the primary curriculum. A theoretical model of the ‘building blocks of drama’ is provided and some practical ideas are presented as starting points. Drama is perceived as concerning the making of meaning rather than necessarily the making of plays.
