ABSTRACT
Two key ideas that underpin this chapter are linguistic and non-linguistic punctuation. The examples of punctuation that are given reveal that the communication of unambiguous meaning is central to punctuation, just as it is to writing more generally. Information about how punctuation works is linked with how best to help children learn to punctuate their writing.
