ABSTRACT

Get excited! It's time to plan and prepare your online psychology course. As you proceed through the book, you will notice that the many tips and tricks provided have been compiled from a variety of sources. The authors conducted an extensive literature review in hopes of uncovering published research on online pedagogical strategies, especially those specif c to the social sciences and psychology. However, in this newly emerging area of research and thinking, of en there is quite simply a lack of peer-reviewed evidence to best guide our readings. Where existing research and theory is not available, the authors share their opinions, based upon past online teaching experiences. Please note that we (the authors) certainly cannot claim to know everything about teaching psychology online! Opinions, thoughts, and past experiences are provided for you to use as illustrative tools for how to solve problems, approach certain situations, and create and implement content. In other words, while we believe that we give good advice (we hope!), it is nonetheless up to you to create your own path in your online career. Some strategies might work wonderfully for you; and in other instances you might discover your own method that builds from something that you read, but that works even better. Always do what feels right for you, and trust your gut—it is your course and your career after all!
