ABSTRACT
On 28 May 2006, the first oil from oilfields in the former Soviet Republic of Azerbaijan was pumped through a newly built pipeline from Baku - through another former Soviet Republic, Georgia - to the Turkish Mediterranean port of Ceyhan. A British oil tanker moored off Ceyhan was the first ship to load that oil for shipment. The pipeline is owned by British Petroleum
