ABSTRACT

Reason and purpose are expressed by additional means. Some are explored below in the expanded expressions section. A common way to express purpose is the following:

:ﺏﻮﺼﻨﳌﺍ ﻉﺭﺎﻀﳌﺍ + ﻰﺘﺣ ،ﻲﻛ ،ـﻟ -ﺩ I came in order to learn from you. .ﻚﻨﻣ َّﻢﻠﻌﺗﺃ ﻲﻛ ﺖﺌﺟ

Although contested by some grammarians, ﻝﺎﳊﺍ, can express purpose or reason, especially if it is derived from ﺏﻮﻠﻘﻟﺍ ﻝﺎﻌﻓﺃ, such as ،ﺮﺒﻛﺃ ،ﺐﻫﺭ ،ﻑﺎﺧ ،ﻊﻤﻃ ،ﺐﻏﺭ ﺮﻘﺘﺣﺍ ّﻞﺟﺃ, etc. Consider the following two examples where the use of ﻪﻠﺟﻷ ﻝﻮﻌﻔﳌﺍ and ﻝﺎﳊﺍ does not make a difference in meaning:

.ﻢﻜﺘﻓﺮﻌﻣ ﻰﻓ ًﺎﺒﻏﺍﺭ ﺖﺌﺟ :ﻝﺎﳊﺍ - .ﻢﻜﺘﻓﺮﻌﻣ ﻲﻓ ًﺔﺒﻏﺭ ُﺖﺌﺟ :ﻪﻠﺟﻷ ﻝﻮﻌﻔﳌﺍ -

The translation of both of these sentences will be the same: “I came out of a desire to know you”.
