ABSTRACT

Sexual intercourse is a fundamental part of being human, but with it arises risks. Much of this book focuses on avoiding unwanted pregnancies; however, a huge risk of sexual intercourse is sexually transmitted infections (STIs). There are many views about sexually transmitted infections; many men and women believe that they are not at risk, some will see it as ‘par for the course’ and others will be horrified. But whatever views they hold, STIs have a huge psychological and emotional impact alone, without adding in the repercussions for fertility.
