ABSTRACT

The progestogen-only pill used to be referred to as the ‘mini-pill’, which tends to give women the impression that it is of a low contraceptive efficacy. The first progestogen pill was Chlormadinone acetate, which was used in 1969 but withdrawn in 1970. There are six progestogen pills (Table 8.1) which have many advantages over other methods which are often not recognized. Cerazette and Cerelle are newer progestogen-only pills which inhibit ovulation and now offer women a greater choice and a more effective contraceptive.
