Healthcare ranks second among industry sectors in energy consumption.172 Hospitals examining ways to manage costs will fi nd that energy projects provide new opportunities. This chapter highlights why and how hospitals seek to reduce operating costs through energy effi ciency and energy reduction while maintaining high quality of care in existing clinical programs.
