ABSTRACT

This chapter covers the first division of the Hebrew Bible known as the Pentateuch or Torah (Law). The story scholars tell about this material, especially about the composition of the Pentateuch and its specific parts, is recounted first before this chapter turns to consider the stories that Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy each tell. This chapter concludes with two things that the Torah “is all about.” These are the issues of divine creation(s) and divine command(s). Suggestions for further reading are also included.
