ABSTRACT

In this chapter we are going to build on the background provided in Chapter 3.4, where we looked at problems that can be experienced with the indoor environment in an existing building and how this can contribute to the symptoms associated with sick building syndrome (SBS). We will refer to the tools used to establish the extent of any dissatisfaction with the indoor environment and to investigate the causes, described in Chapter 2.2. This chapter will set out the management operations required to mitigate against SBS, indoor air pollution, building-related allergies and discomfort due to thermal, visual and aural factors.
