ABSTRACT
What causes governments to intervene in the operations of the MNE subsidiaries? Why does Brazil ‘reserve’ particular computer products for Brazilian firms, Nigeria force consumer goods subsidiaries into joint ventures and South Korea force US chemical MNEs out of the country altogether? In pursuit of the answer, this chapter examines the basis of intervention.
