ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the legal and economic concerns regarding copyright protection in general and copyright expansion in duration in particular in order to examine the research question: to what extent can the forces of creative destruction affect the relation (interaction or correlation) between copyright expansion in duration and the growth of the UK book publishing industry at the fi rm and industry levels? For this purpose, this chapter reviews the historical development of UK copyright expansion. After this review, the legal arguments and economic justifi cations of copyright protection and expansion are elaborated upon.
