ABSTRACT

The notion of life course is important to a particularly sociological perspective on people and their behavior. In general, sociologists believe that people are only partially shaped by their biological and genetic capacities. Instead, our self and how we approach social life are constantly shaped by events and experiences that happen all the way through life. We change constantly, if not occasionally dramatically. The concept of life course holds that socialization is a lifelong process (Furstenberg 1991). Accordingly, our appreciation for and use of popular music is a dynamic process that does not end when we become adults.
