S OMETIMES WE ARE INTERESTED IN ANSWERING research questions that are probabilistic. That is, research tells us which result is most likely to occur for groups of elements such as individuals or families. For example, group-level designs (see Chapter 7 ) allow us to evaluate whether one intervention, overall, is more effective than another.
