However a school assesses its pupils’ attainment it is the analysis of progress from one assessment to the next that is vital to determine whether action needs to be taken, and, where it has been taken, whether or not it has worked. Ofsted is clear in its view that:
good evaluation requires systems that track progress securely towards planned outcomes and information that is used rigorously and regularly to evaluate the impact of interventions.
