ABSTRACT

Cora had been in the mall since early morning. Donning her pink jogging suit, she joined twelve other seniors who set out each day to circle the inner mall. As she passed each shop she gazed longingly at the orlon dresses, silk Parisian scarves, blue-steel tennis rackets, DVDs, television sets, cafe lattés, and orange smoothies. Her limited retirement budget prevented her from purchasing more than one little “luxury” a month, but she reveled in her daydreams. After her aerobic fitness exercises ended, she finished her bagel and coffee in the garden café and wandered through the big department stores checking for new fall styles and jotting down ideas for Christmas. How lucky I am, she thought. This beautiful world, right across the street from my house, is an Eden on Earth.
