ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses the crime of genocide perpetrated during the Holocaust and takes in dark tourism experiences at Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in Poland. It addresses the crime of mass murder of French civilians during World War II and is accounted for by dark tourism experiences in the village of Oradour-sur-Glane. The book explores the crimes of genocide perpetrated by Pol Pots Khmer Rouge and is accounted for by dark tourism experiences at the Tuol Sleng prison facility and the killing fields of Choeung. It examines the state crimes of abduction, incarceration, torture and murder perpetrated during the so-called Dirty War in Argentina and takes in the dark tourism experiences of various sites in the city of Buenos Aires. The book focuses on the state crime of abduction and murder perpetrated by the Pinochet regime in Chile.
