ABSTRACT

Unfortunately, addiction is not an easy problem to overcome and most people can expect to experience a few slip-ups on the road to recovery. As long as these slip-ups, or even the occasional relapse, are accompanied by greater self-awareness, improved relapse-prevention techniques and renewed commitment to recovery, they can reluctantly be accepted as par for the course. However, continuing relapses or any escalation in behaviour may be the result of an underlying block that has not yet been recognised.
