ABSTRACT

Sex addiction is nothing new. The term may be a modern one, but the painful condition of feeling controlled by one’s sexual desires and compelled to act on them has been described as far back in time as the third century by St Augustine. Human sexuality is a powerful drive and one that we’ve both celebrated and denigrated throughout history. It is one of the most healing forces known to man, and one of the most devastating. Sex can build selfesteem and create the closest couple bonds, but it can also break people and relationships in two. Sex is complex and mysterious – surely that’s why we love it so much.
