ABSTRACT

A neglected art. Reading and writing stories provides useful extension work for the more able, but can also be adapted for less able linguists – indeed, many of the activities suggested below are self-differentiating. You act as “conductor”, putting questions to prompt the next step, making suggestions if the students get stuck. Most stories invite the use of ICT for word-processing, illustration, etc. If stories are written in groups, the corrected versions can be displayed or passed round and read by class-mates or other classes.
