ABSTRACT
In this chapter we turn to some of the major ways of thinking about crime introduced by sociologists, largely – but not exclusively – during the twentieth century, and with prominent focus on delinquency, youthful gangs, the city and crime.Although much of their work has been criticized and subsequently modified, much remains relevant today and underpins a great deal of contemporary thinking about crime.
