ABSTRACT

Climate change has a direct impact on the environment and all

living things on the planet. Severe economic and social impacts

quickly follow the environmental impact. The relationship of these

drivers is illustrated in Figure 4.1. The basic tenet of sustainability

is to take actions now so that future generations can continue to

enjoy standards of living similar to those today. Additionally, for

future generations in much of the developing world standards of

living need to improve significantly-as the previous chapters have

shown, the economic and social impacts of climate change are likely

to be most severe in developing countries.
