ABSTRACT
Discourses on Asia, Africa, and Latin America are replete with terms such as Third World development, economic development, uneven development, regional development, and the like. Because these terms are commonly used without elaboration, one might assume that ‘development’ is well defined, its meaning agreed upon. But in fact, two people referring to Third World development often mean quite different things and hold little inclination towards compromising their position.
