ABSTRACT
BUILDING THE DESIRE TO MASTER STUDY SKILLS Students have to master some very complex and difficult information-processing skills. What makes learning more difficult is that students have to master these skills during a period when they are going through physical and emotional changes and facing stressful social changes. The majority of students in the world today are in stressful home situations and that complicates the mix. A growing number are latchkey kids on their own for hours after school. Many are from single parent homes. Many face physically or mentally abusive situations. Unemployment of parents, insufficient family income, or other major economic problems add to the insecurity.
