ABSTRACT

Playground activities incorporates the use of large muscle groups leading to improvement in control of small muscles groups form part of a child's developmental milestones. Manipulative skills such as pouring take place through sand and water play; this is where loose items combine spatial judgement, movement control and clear separate roles for both hands. In outdoor play children with special needs can imitate, model behaviour on what they observe and, like other children, play on the periphery of groups before integrating with smaller and larger groups. All children will want to use the climbing structure at some stage and should be given the opportunity. The inclusion of swings with pigtail hooks will more easily help to meet a wide range of children's needs and make swings an open-ended play opportunity. Install a low-level flying fox with braided steel cable and a removable shackle to carry interchangeable assemblies and varied fittings that can meet specific developmental needs of children.
