ABSTRACT

One of the most important aspects of strategy formulation and implementation involves determining how growth (or in some cases, downsizing) will be achieved. Questions that need to be asked under the heading of the portfolio driver concern issues such as expansion through organic growth, partnerships, mergers and acquisition (M&A) or expanding into new product/service lines and new geographical markets. In some cases these decisions might involve reducing activities in particular areas, by closing or selling some business units and withdrawing from some areas.
