ABSTRACT

Pollo Campero is a very popular restaurant chain in Guatemala, Central America and around the world. It was created in 1971 when Dionisio Gutierrez, Sr. took advantage of the opportunity to develop a restaurant company, by leveraging the poultry business that his father, Juan Bautista Gutierrez, had established in the 1960s. As the company grew, in 1982, Juan José Gutierrez, his son, became president and leader of the company. In 1994, Pollo Campero developed a franchise concept and platform that enabled the brand to expand internationally. As such, the company now has restaurants beyond its base of operations in Guatemala with restaurants in El Salvador, USA, Spain, Italy, Ecuador, Honduras, the Middle East, and Indonesia. Juan José Gutierrez, Co-CEO of Corporacion Multi-Inversiones (CMI), the holding company that owns Pollo Campero, shares, in the following interview which took place on March 12, 2012, his experience at the helm of this Latin American multinational powerhouse.
