ABSTRACT

This quotation exemplifies the national debate about the quality and usefulness of educational research taking place in the United Kingdom in the late 1990s. At the same time a more local debate was occurring in Cambridge, both within local schools and in the Faculty of Education – most clearly identified in the writings of two professors, David Hargreaves (1999) and Donald McIntyre (1998; McIntyre and McIntyre 1999). Out of these debates emerged the Schools-University Partnership in Educational Research (SUPER). This partnership has aimed to develop and research a partnership between eight schools and the University of Cambridge Faculty of Education which has focused on the development of educational research in all these settings, and has been in existence since 1998.
