ABSTRACT

Hannah Appleyard described her relationship with her husband as mutually dependent. She was 68 years of age when he died, suddenly and unexpectedly. She grieved deeply for him and became extremely anxious and lonely. When she first attended my clinic 18 months later, she was still extremely anxious, inclined to panic and feeling isolated and lonely. She was using alcohol as a tranquilliser and, although she was sober when attending the clinic, she admitted that she often drank more than was good for her.
