ABSTRACT
In the emergence of Islam as a religion, there are two major factors displayed in the sources, which we have isolated and examined in the preceding chapters. One relates to the formation of Islam as a distinct entity alongside Judaism and Christianity. The other relates to social issues and the emergence of structures of authority in the community. The solidification of the identity of Islam appears to have been a dynamic process, working on several levels all at the same time.
