ABSTRACT

Economic sociology is not only a continuation of classical sociology – it is also a response to neoclassical economic theory and new institutional economics. To understand economic sociology one has to understand economic theory. Economic sociology is not only a response to the turf war between the two disciplines and economic imperialism. It is also an intellectual response to a particular paradigm that has had incredible power over public policy and has impacted – often negatively – on the lives and livelihoods of millions of people.
