And these insecurities are fully reflected on the global agenda at the macro level of collectivities and states. At this level security concerns have broadened well beyond military and strategic considerations to include restless publics, shaky economies, and fragile governments. The stalemated Israeli-Palestine conflict, the readiness of many Middle Eastern youth to become suicide bombers, the emergence of anti-immigrant sentiment and politicians in several European countries, and the inability of the Bush Administration to exercise the required leadership, underlie a pervasive foreboding as to the future of world affairs.
