ABSTRACT

Actions act out the worldview and the way of life of Judaism. These actions are called mitzvot, commandments, and in carrying them out, the faithful Israelite is made holy and takes a place in the Kingdom of God, subjecting himself or herself to God’s rule. The blessing before carrying out a commandment transforms a secular into a religious action. The formula is, “Blessed are you, Lord our God, who has sanctified us by his commandments and commanded us to ... ” do such and so.
