The first application to be made of the results of our investigation into the principles of ethical knowledge concerns the question as to the right end of action, which remains unanswered. We know that it must consist of the best that we are able to attain; we know what is meant by ‘good’ and by ‘better’ and how to recognize something as good or better. But we must still look into the individual constituents of the right end. In order to determine them, we must investigate the following.
