ABSTRACT

In Japan, harmony with neighbors has been a traditional way of life. But this kind of community consciousness has been weakened by rapid economic development in the modern era, in which a materialistic consumer society has emerged. Meanwhile, the residential site has changed from open to closed, as enclosures formed by cement blocks can be seen everywhere. With this transformation, communication between neighbors has been in decline, and as a result, neighborhood crime watch and mutual support for social welfare became everyday challenges.
