ABSTRACT

As with most other academic subjects, the first thing that may come to mind when thinking of geographic study is written text (Hardwick & Davis, 2009). But valuable, some might say better, geographic learning can result from observing the features of Earth as well. This can be accomplished through field trips, certainly, but in classrooms visual information can also provide a basis for geographic study. Still and moving pictures, maps, graphs, and charts are wonderful sources in geography (Cruz & Thornton, 2012). Exercises based on visuals have been shown to be highly effective with ELLs (Salinas et al., 2008).
