ABSTRACT

This is the first of two chapters examining Christian-majority countries.1 I divide Christian majority countries into two chapters because of the sheer number of such countries. The reasoning behind this specific division is that Third World and nonThird World countries are likely to have substantial differences in state policy, which in fact proves to be the case. In this chapter I focus on Western Democracies and the former Soviet bloc, and in Chapter 11 I focus on the Third World, but also compare the two groups of countries.
