ABSTRACT

What's the right thing to do? For social workers the question has an extra-sharp edge. What's the right thing to do in this particular case, with this particular family, this service user? Sometimes it can seem as though there are many different answers to the question, and certainly there are very many places to look for an answer. There are our agency's policies and procedures, the wishes of the service users, our assessment of their needs, our own personal values, our professional codes, government regulations and the laws of the land. Finding a way through this forest can be a daunting task.
