ABSTRACT

Reward or remuneration systems, are central to the employee–employer relationship. In essence they should be the free exchange of work for money and other benefits of value. In modern society, however, this relationship can be extremely complex. At its simplest a reward system can consist of an hourly rate being paid for each hour worked. At the other extreme a remuneration system might consist of a career-long package of benefits including salary, paid holidays, pensions, company car, health insurances, training and development, regular promotion, clubs, special purchasing arrangements, family benefits and a range of other benefits.
