ABSTRACT

This chapter is worthy of a great deal of attention simply because it contains the basic scientific concepts and principles that are essential for understanding several of the environmental and resource concerns that are prevalent today, such as: the limits to energy conversion technology; the determinants of environmental damage cost function; the value of biodiversity; the causes and consequence of climate change; and the ways of achieving environmental sustainability. Chapter 2 truly serve as foundations for most of the chapters in this book.
