ABSTRACT

During the doctoral supervision period, most students want to present something from their research at either a national or international conference. This, of course, is to be encouraged because it exposes them to feedback on their work from those outside the supervisory team. Supervisors will typically provide their students with some advice on (a) what is expected by a conference abstract reviewing committee, (b) the construction of PowerPoint slides for the oral presentation and (c) the writing of a conference paper or a journal article. In this chapter, I offer some advice on writing the conference abstract in Part One, on preparing the PowerPoint slides in Part Two and on writing a journal article in Part Three.
