ABSTRACT

Now that we’ve reached the end of the book, I hope that it has been an interesting, and useful, journey through the rules of relationships. In each chapter, we’ve considered what the taken-for-granted rules are. We’ve explored reasons why we might want to question these rules. We’ve examined some of the alternative rules that groups and individuals have tried, and we’ve wondered what it would be like to go beyond rules and to embrace the idea that this aspect of relationships is uncertain: would we still want some guidelines, agreements or boundaries in place? How fl exible and fl uid would these be?
