ABSTRACT

As discussed in the sub-section ‘New Opposition Forces’ (page 80) in Chapter 3, in May 2007, a student movement emerged and temporarily succeeded in challenging the Bolivarian project with a new form of opposition discourse until the end of 2007. Students from different universities organized and constructed a protest strategy that took the Bolivarian hegemonic project and opposition supporters by surprise. This movement of young university students claimed to have no political afliation with opposition parties. Their initial aim was to challenge the government's decision not to renew the broadcasting license of the private TV channel Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV).
